hi,

VPS shoudl be setup exactly like my VPS for securehotelbooking.com but should use server.rootshosting.net / ns1-2.rootshosting.net / ns42-42.hostforweb.net

websites to migrate I will tell you but mainly they are websites under rootshosting.net (some I may make from scratch on the VPS)

hi,

vps is ready now I think

for migration:

Can I ask you please?

as per ticket RAJ-568904, starting 30 of may we started moving back websites out of VPS to put in Shared.

Now if you took a backup of the websites, all but 3 or 4 can be migrated from that VPS to the new VPS

Please tell me if you have such a backup

hi,

I was thinking about that because I think many websites have different file permissions and things... I thought it'd be faster and safer to do it that way (using the backup from VPS from 30 may...)

if you prefer making vibration from shared please tell me

hi,

server is now called securehotelbooking.com and password i

as per what backup I'm not sure.... should be the backup that hopefully hfw staff have made before to sent all websites to reseller

you can send all websites to new VPS (except securehotelbooking)

and current websites I can update manually maybe

hi,

that's where we are confused...

I was asking if it was possible to use the backups that were made around the 30may when we moved all websites back to shared from VPS

if such backups exist...

because sites are not on securehotelbooking anymore... i was just hoping somebody made a backup before sending to reseller

are there backups of websites from before they were moved out of vps?

Okey let clarify what we ought to do VPS server.securehotelbooking.com and want us to migrate all the data to your new VPS? What is the MAIN IP of this VPS and root password, where I need to migrate accounts?

Valery B.

Migration Services Department

Posted On: 25 Jul 2008 06:44 AM

yes... this is very confusing I reckon...

recapitulation:

VPS1 used to be server.rootshosting.net

we migrated all data to shared (reseller user reggaegu) about the 30 of may

we renamed VPS1 to server.securehotelbooking.com

we created VPS2 and called it server.rootshosting.net with same config as VPS1

so now... eventhough websites are on reseller, they used to be configured and working on VPS1 (which is now securehotelbooking but used to be rootshosting)

So I figured that if there are some backups of websites on VPS1 dating from before migraion to reseller... we'd gain a lot of effort....

(but if it makes it more difficult... )

did that enlighten you?

I'm starting to transfer websites to new VPS rootshosting.net but websites don't open, rather I get option to download

hi,

about dns:

I updated dns ip at hfwdomains.com

1/but other registrars such as switch.ch or godaddy dont' allow me to update IP for DNS, they say that they don't register IPs... I'm still waiting for dns resolution for these but it starts to be quite long.... and some websites have gone offline

2/ my WHM and VZPP dont' open when i try to connect with http://216.246.52.233:2086/ or https://216.246.52.233:4643/vz/cp... (these were ok this morning)

I think something's wrong with the dns settings somewhere

Hi Setup VPS for Joomla,

the node that you VPS is on is currently experiencing some technical difficulties, we are working on resolution as we speak.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As far as changing IPs for DNS on a certain domain registrar I'm afraid you'll have to contact their support on how to resolve this.

Let us know if you need anything else.

hi, I can see that i got my monitoring pages back, thanks

for the dns issue, it still takes unusual time for some urls to resolve, such as hotelcransmontana.ch ....

it still shows the old IP and registrar is definite, they don't register IP, only nameserver...

also, strangely, server.rootshosting.net shows the wrong IP (64.202.120.110)

shouldn't that one show my main IP 216.246.52.233?

Hello,

Please run a traceroute from your local machine to the server. You can run a traceroute in Windows by clicking Start -> Run and typing in cmd and clicking OK. A command prompt will open and you can run

tracert mydomain.com

(replace mydomain.com with your web domain)

You can copy and paste the results by using the Icon in the upper left-hand corner of the command prompt window by choosing the Edit->Mark option, selecting the text; pressing Enter and then using the Paste feature to put it into your response to this query.

Greetings

It appears there are some issues with the dns configuration on your server. Please provide us with a list of the accounts you are having problems with and, if they are supposed to be on a dedicated ip address, what ip address that is, and if not, indicate they are supposed to be on the shared ip address, and we will go into the server and modify the dns zones for you. Also i notice you have more than one account with us, so, please also indicate what server ( by ip, or host name ) these troublesome domains are intended to be hosted on.

Please provide us with a list of the accounts you are having problems with and, if they are supposed to be on a dedicated ip address, what ip address that is, and if not, indicate they are supposed to be on the shared ip address, and we will go into the server and modify the dns zones for you. Also i notice you have more than one account with us, so, please also indicate what server ( by ip, or host name ) these troublesome domains are intended to be hosted on. http://server.rootshosting.net still resolves to the IP of the rootshosting.net website in shared account (64.202.120.110) ...

maybe that can give you a clue to find what's wrong because several registrars seem to be ignoring IP changes for ns1/2.rootshosting.net (these registrars apparently use only ns entries and not IP)

Hello,

Your NS records at the parent servers are:

ns41.hostforweb.net. [66.225.219.9] [TTL=172800] [US]

ns42.hostforweb.net. [69.61.10.11] [TTL=172800] [US]

You should update these to point to the VPS to avoid these issues.

I set ns for reggaeguesthouse.com from godaddy and it resolved properly

then I set same ns for rootsreggaeclub.com from same godaddy account and it opens reggaeguesthouse instead (only for the first page, if i click on an internal link then the real rootsreggaeclub.com appears)

Yes, for ns1/2.rootshosting.net use 216.246.52.233 and 216.246.52.234. You can then update your DNS to point to ns1/2 instead of using our ns41/42.

that's what I did on all registrars but:

- hfwdomains still wants to point to shared

- godaddy has all url point to the same website (the first i updated)

- switch.ch still sends to shared and says:

FailuresTest: The SOA answer is not authoritative==> ns2.rootshosting.net./66.225.216.126

- As for http://server.rootshosting.net it still points to shared... while it's the vps itself...

Hello,

Well, rootshosting.net currently has DNS pointed to ns41/ns42 so server.rootshosting.net will also point incorrectly.

For hfwdomains, you can follow these instructions:

--

To update your nameservers on hfwdomains.com please follow this proceedure:

1. Go to http://wwww.hfwdomains.com

2. Login into your account.

3. Click the link that says "You have # domain names in your account" (where # is a real number).

4. Click the domain name name that is associated with your hosting account.

5. Under the DNS Server portion, click the "Change Service" button.

6. Select the "user" option, and "Save Changes"

7. Type the nameservers we have provided into the text boxes you are provided and "Save Changes"

You must do this for all domains which you which to host on our servers (if you are creating an addon or parked domain then you can use those identical nameservers, if you are purchasing a new account then it's possible you will be sent a different set of nameservers to use).

Once you save this then your domain will propagate sometimes as quickly as 5-10 minutes (.com and .net) and sometimes as long as 48 hours.

--

For GoDaddy:

--

Getting there

1. Point your web browser to http://www.godaddy.com/.

Logging into your account

2. Log into your account by clicking on the "My Account" link located just below the menubar of the webpage. If you don't

have an account yet, you will have to create one.

3. Enter your login name or customer number in the entry box labelled "Login Name or Customer Number".

4. Enter your password in the "Password" entry box located below the "Login Name" entry box.

5. Click on the "LOGIN" button located below the "Password" entry box.

Choosing a domain

6. Good! Now that you have logged into your account, select the "Manage Domains" menu item from the "Domain Names" drop

down menu located on the left side of the webpage.

7. Below the "Domains Names" menu, select the domain for which you will be creating nameservers. If you do not have any

domains, you will have to register one. For example, awebsite.com.

Creating the first nameserver

8. In the bottom right hand corner of the webpage (you may have to scroll down), expand the "Domain Host Summary" box by

clicking on the "+" icon.

9. Click on the "Click here to see details or to modify" link below to begin creating the your nameservers.

10. On the right side of the webpage, enter the host name of your first name server in the entry box labelled "Host". The

most common names are "ns1" or "dns1". For example, ns1.awebsite.com or dns1.awebsite.com.

11. Just below, add the IP of the nameserver in the "IP Address" entry boxes. For example, 128.98.34.112.

12. Now create the nameserver by clicking on "Add New Host".

Creating the second nameserver

13. You will need to create at least 2 nameservers. To create a second nameserver, repeat steps 10 to 12. Common practice

dictates that the second nameserver will be named "ns2" or "dns2". For example, ns2.awebsite.com or dns2.awebsite.com.

14. By convention, the last part of the ip address of the second nameserver will be incremented by 1. For example,

128.98.34.113.

15. At this point you could add additional nameservers but it is not required. To save your nameservers, click on "Save

Changes".

Final thoughts

16. Excellent! You have successfully created private nameservers at GoDaddy.com! Remember that your changes may take up to

72 hours to take effect (propagate).

Can you provide examples of some of the corruption you're seeing?

yes... that's probably source of some of the problems, I'll do that immediately for rootshosting.net (sorry I didn't thnk of that before)

what about rootsreggaeclub and reggaeguesthouse issues? Is there a way to assess what files have been corrupt when server went down our should we reload backups?

hi,

1/ I updated dns for rootshosting.net

2/ (I'll keep on following up on that one, no need for you to loook into it now) godaddy: I followed your instructions as closely as can be but that doesnt' lead me to update ns*.rootshosting.net... rather wants me to create ns entries using each url name... 3/ errors I see so far:

looks like websites from godaddy resolve to new IP but:

a.rootsreggaeclub.com opens main page of reggaeguesthouse.com (without picutres and links)

b. reggaeguesthouse.com's navigation's script (top_guest_house.htm) has been cut in half (and maybe other files too but I havnt' checked yet)

c. please note that I've updated .htacess files in these 2 domains

from

AddType application/x-httpd-php .htmAddType application/x-httpd-php5 .php

to

AddType application/x-httpd-php5 .htm

because pages were not opening... (and they displayed properly for a while after that, I think it's not the origin of the mess)

Setup VPS for Joomla,

Domain had old nameservers assigned on server side.

It's because this option was enabled in WHM - Tweak Settings:

"When adding a new domain, if the domain is already registered, ignore the configured nameservers, and set the NS line to the authoritative (registered) ones."

It's enabled in WHM by default.

I've checked all domains hosted on that VPS, and setup proper nameservers.

no please don't do that, I'm sending them one afer the other because I can't afford to have them all go down at the same time since there are some problems with VPS

only bookhostelbook and rootshosting should point to VPS, others are still on shared

(also reggaeguesthouse, rootsreggaeclub and hotelcransmontana.ch, but they are registered outside)

Setup VPS for Joomla,

I've setup your private nameservers on server side, so domains are configured to be pointed to VPS when you are ready for that.

Since domains are still using our nameservers in domain registrar, they are pointed to shared server. When you are ready to point any domain to VPS, you just ahve to change nameservers at registrar.

yes, ^_^, that was my plan

but now I got issues with about every website that points to VPS:1. www.reggaeguesthouse.com has had some scripts corrupt this morning while the VPS went down. so far the only thing I've noticed is that the navigation script has been cut in half... (I think you should reload a 48h old backup of that website (from general chmod performed by support to 755.644)

this website resolves to correct IP from godaddy

2. www.rootsreggaeclub.com main page displays the main page script of www.reggaeguesthouse.com (without pictures and if i click on an internal link then rootsreggaeclub opens properly

3. websites www.bookhostelbook.com (hfwdomains) www.hotelcransmontana.ch (switch) still point to shared while nameservers have been changed for about 48hours to ns1/2.rootshosting.net.

this is from switch:

Setup VPS for Joomla,

1. Is there any full account backup for reggaeguesthouse.com. If not, we can check for full VPs backup on our NAS, and restore public_html for that account.

2. http://www.rootsreggaeclub.com/ is opening now. Option allow_url_include was not enabled in your php configuration, and index.html of rootsreggaeclub.com have this line:

include "http://www.reggaeguesthouse.com/top_guest_house.htm";

I've enabled allow_url_include, but I would like to warn you that it is EXTREMELY dangerous function, it could cause various exploits of your whole server. That option is disabled in newer versions of PHP by default.

3. Both domains are now using proper nameservers at domain registrar and on server side, it should resolve properly to VPS shortly (you would probably have to wait for DNS to propagate).

hi,

thanks for that

1/any backup for reggaeguesthouse.com is fine but I'd like to know how can a html page be cut in half... how can we make sure that it didnt' happen elsewhere on the server?

2/for allow_url_include you can disable it... I don't understand why this url is fetching in reggaeguesthouse, I'll look into it. (I confirm, please disable allow_url_include) I'll change the script but I have no clue what it's doing there

Thanks

Setup VPS for Joomla,

we have this 2 backups of your VPS available:

7.5G Jul 28 21:58 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

7.6G Jul 30 15:06 This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Have you checked file itself, is it broken, or it's just showing broken in browser?

I've disabled allow_url_include, and register_globals.

We can't create EXACT copy of some VPS. Every new VPS is created from scratch, and it has some default settings. And, we can't always see all settings on old VPs to copy it to new one. In most cases, we would need you to list what exact settings you need on new VPs, and we are then configuring it (or installing some additional software).

I see that all files and directories on reggae account are setup with 755 permissions.

There are not much files with 777 permissions (only some files in /home/reggaegu/public_html.s/components

And, public_html.s looks like some backup, it's not accessible online.

Where were accounts on this VPs moved from, older VPs or from shared space?

I checked the file, problem comes from the file itself... the first 3/4 of the file were eaten away somehow when the server went down. website was showing ok last night.

I'm scared other websites may have had problems as well... I think we should reload hotel-montpaisible.ch / hotel-crans-montana.com, hotelcransmontana.ch, hotel-montpaisible.ch, montpaisible.ch, rayonghomeandland.com, bookhostelbook.com and reggaeguesthouse.com, just in case

2/forget for chmod thing, I'll do it myself if it's a problem for you

3/for the settings of the VPS, isn't it possible to see all the settings files from teh other VPS and do the same here? (such as PHP.ini and other files of which I don't know the name)

and isnt' there a way to see what extra modules have been added after standard install on the other VPS and install the same here?

4/have you turned of allow_url_include and register globals?

hi, sorry to interupt

I know you're it's normal that websites go down, but read this, it may help bring some light on the problem:

the website hotelcransmontana.ch has been set a long time ago to use ns1/2.rootshosting.net but never resolved... it still shows properly with IP from the reseller

but each time that the server has been down, this site with IP from reseller has been down as well

systematically... eventhough it appears to be opening form the reseller...

this tells me that somewhere in the settings there's something that still tells ns1/2.rootshosting.net to redirect to shared...

I noticed it going down yesterday each time the the VPS was down... i really thought that strange since it's opening from another account... it's down again now, you can check it out www.hotelcransmontana.ch

if I understand your question... and some of these settings are intended for php.ini but I'm not sure which one for I understood that there were several php.ini on a server

also can we disable phpinfo functions please

Thanks, I'll try myself to it

I was trying to solve my dns issue and I noticed that all dns zones that should be under ns1/2.rootshosting.net are still under ns41/42.hostforweb.net (which is the reseller account)

I also noticed that IPs are mixed up between the old and new VPS IPs for most accounts dns settings

all these accounts should be receiving through ns1/2.rootshosting.net eventhough I'll update most of them later from registrar, but dns zone looks all mixed-up for now

Hello:

I have corrected the nameserver entries under WHM to match the values at the registrar's page.

We are investigating the apache server's mod_security issue now.

We will update this ticket when that is completed and the http://rootshosting.net is working.

Other "issues" still pending.

Thanks,

John Jones

Hi,

I've copied php settings from VPS server.securehotelbooking.com to server.rootshosting.net. From now they are same (and functions show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, exec, phpinfo, popen, proc_open disabled).

Best regards,

hi,

it seems that since the website rayonghomeandland.com is on the new server.rootshosting.net some admin pages don't open properly on some computers (and on others they are ok)

would it be possible to reload this website from the copy from shared (reggaegu 216.246.77.64) please, and see what happens

hi,

sorry to ask about that, it may sound like a dumb question to you.

on this server we have installed things like mod_security or other security/scan modules

my question is: do all these modules or upgrades installed require specific configuration from me? or maybe even activation?
